Job opportunity: Resource author
Exploring Secularism is an initiative from the National Secular Society, which provides educational resources for schools to help deliver good quality teaching about secularism and freedom of belief issues.
With secularism increasingly seen as a key concept in the study of religion and worldviews, but often poorly covered, we are looking for an author to overhaul and develop the resources. This will be an exciting opportunity to produce a range of resources aligned to teacher and pupil needs, and capable of improving the coverage of secularism in schools across the country.
The author will have considerable freedom in producing resources to cover a range of topics, subjects and ages. These should be balanced, critical, informative and engaging.
Salary: £40,000 per annum (pro-rata)
Location: Remote working with occasional meetings at our London office possible
Flexibility: This is a short-term contract. It is envisaged that that project will take around 14 weeks to complete, working full time, although we are open to proposals for part time working to complete the project over a longer period. The role may particularly suit a current teacher interested in a secondment.
Subject background: This is a post most likely to appeal to a teacher of religious education or citizenship but this should not preclude others from applying who may find this opportunity of interest.
Skills and experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience creating classroom and/or teacher training resources
- A confident understanding of secularism and current issues in religious education, particularly in England & Wales
- Strong writing skills with an ability to communicate to different age groups
- Strong self-organisation and remote working skills

Please send a CV and covering letter detailing how your interests, skills and experiences prepare you for the role, to firstname.lastname@example.org by 13.00 on Monday 9 November 2020. Please also include an example of or links to your work.
Interviews are expected to be conducted over Zoom.
